Mohammad Kobadi

Tavak Partners Advises World Record Holder

Picture
Iranian distance swimmer Mohammad Kobadi had already set a Guinness World Record in 2011 as the first and fastest swimmer to cross the Persian Gulf, but wanted to do it again three years later.

An American swimming enthusiast, acting on a referral from the US Department of State, contacted Tavak Partners to act as Kobadi'sliaison. The initial idea was to repeat the swim as a relay with American and Iranian swimmers. The joint participation would symbolize peace and sports diplomacy.

After a great deal of research and much discussion, Mo Tavakolian determined that the project would be too dangerous to repeat because of the area's tense political climate. Citing intel from various sources, Tavakolian successfully urged all parties to abandon their project.

Tavakolian continued to work with Kobadi through 2016, exploring his options of swimming the English Channel. If Kobadi makes the swim successfully, he would be the first Iranian to complete the crossing in the Channel's 142-year swimming history.
