Become Your Own Dream Scholarship Fund
Founded in 2011 by Mo Tavakolian, Lorelei Martin-Tavakolian and Jon Tush, the Become Your Own Dream Fund (BYOD) has since awarded thousands of dollars to college-bound Beat the Streets-affiliated wrestlers.
The BYOD scholarship is granted to a New York City student-athlete who has overcome obstacles, felt hardship, and who plans to wrestle in college. It is open to those who have graduated from high school (or are seniors attending college in the fall), and those who currently attend college.
The BYOD committee looks for candidates’ achievements in high school, strength of character, short- and long-term goals, and how they hope to give back to the community.
Beat the Streets (BTS) is a non-profit that aims to improve the lives and potential of New York City student-athletes through the benefits and skills acquired by participating in amateur wrestling.
BTS believes that the sport of wrestling fosters an uncommon combination of character traits that lead to enhanced social and personal development, and ultimately to better life outcomes, in the urban youth they serve.
